Be the change you want to see

Saving the planet sounds like something the heroes in a Hollywood movie do, but it’s an opportunity and a responsibility that’s fallen to all of us because of the ignorance, mistakes and pig-headedness of previous generations.

Our site’s full of ideas for how you can help; projects and events that need your support. There’s something for everyone who has time and energy to volunteer, whatever your skills and experiences.

Do something that will help

Volunteering is a way to contribute to a cause you believe in, be part of something bigger, to put your time, skills, experiences, and interests to good use.

Make your community better

Often we live in places we never properly belong to. As a volunteer you can contribute to your own community, become more part of it, and help others.

We’ve all learned how much we need other people, and how much they need us. Volunteer to do something new and useful with your family and friends, make new friends, feel better – have fun.

Change your life

As a volunteer, you see the world a different way, learn new things. You can change how you see yourself – how others see you – and change the direction you’re headed in – maybe into a new career.

Stroud is teeming with people and projects trying to make it a better place, and do something about the climate, nature and sustainability crises we face. They could all use a helping hand. Here’s some of the projects you could help out with.

The Carbon Mapping Project is building a map that displays the many projects happening around the Stroud Valleys to reduce carbon and restore nature. A ‘Google Maps’ of where and how you can help around here – but also where you can find help for what you want to do. Nationally, Carbon Copy is sharing the details and stories of projects that are making a difference.

Volunteers make all the difference

Volunteers get things done. Many things would, in fact, never get done without them. Edible Stroud have been at Stroud train station for years now, creating and tending local food. It’s one of our favourite stories. Are there others we should know about? Tell us in the usual way.
