Kitchen garden train station

After a year of negotiation with Stroud train station, GWR and Network Rail, Edible Stroud volunteers began work in May 2017 clearing the redundant old sidings next to platform 1 at Stroud station to make way for an edible garden they’d designed.

They built raised beds, and planted soft fruit, herbs and flowers, and volunteers have kept coming back each year to develop the gardens further, with the help of other volunteer groups like the Bisley Community Composting Scheme.

Edible Stroud’s long-term aim is to supply the station cafe and other local businesses with fresh food. Until then, the gardens are a beautiful and characterful welcome for visitors arriving in Stroud by train, they help bring the station closer to the community and inspire locals to grow their own produce, and are ecologically valuable.
